Statement on Misrepresentation Regarding "Membership" of Margin Financing Platforms in Online Articles
The Hong Kong Securities and Futures Professionals Association (hereinafter referred to as "the Association") has recently noticed an article published on a domestic website titled "Margin Financing Official Platform Unable to Locate? Be Careful! It Could Be a Fraudulent Platform!" (Note 1), which mentions that investors can verify whether a margin financing platform is a "member unit" through the Association. These statements are not only inaccurate but may also mislead the public. Therefore, the Association hereby solemnly declares:
1. The Association has never provided, nor does it offer, any form of margin financing platform inquiry service.
The Association is a non-profit professional organization formally registered under Hong Kong law, dedicated to promoting the professional development of Hong Kong's financial industry, actively safeguarding the rights and interests of practitioners, and providing comprehensive support and services to the industry. The Association does not have the statutory authority to recognize, regulate, register, or verify any domestic or overseas margin financing platforms, nor does it involve in the confirmation of membership qualifications or related inquiry services for margin financing platforms.
2. The content of the article is inaccurate and may mislead the public.
The Association sternly points out that the claims made in the article are completely inconsistent with the actual functions and scope of services of the Association. Any person or institution wishing to verify licensed corporations or individuals engaged in activities regulated by the "Securities and Futures Ordinance" (Chapter 571 of Hong Kong Laws) in Hong Kong should directly refer to the official website of the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) of Hong Kong (www.sfc.hk).
The Association hereby urges the community and investors to remain vigilant, guard against false information and illegal margin financing activities, and verify information sources.
